The Dig Next Door: XY Air Dome Encloses the Excavation at China Agricultural University

The foundation pit air dome built by Beijing Xinyuan Yijia Membrane Structure Technology Co., Ltd. at China Agricultural University's Hydraulic Engineering Building has been installed and is now in use. The site lies within the university's East Campus. Staff housing runs along the south side — the nearest residential block is three metres away — with teaching buildings to the east and a residents' park to the north. Few construction environments are more sensitive, and the environmental requirements were set accordingly.
A Sealed Enclosure for Building at Close Quarters
XY Air Dome's answer to working this close to occupied buildings was a fully enclosed foundation pit air dome, separating the works physically from everything around them. Dust is contained where it is generated rather than chased afterwards, and construction noise is substantially reduced.
Keeping Working Temperatures Down Through Summer
The enclosure combines white shading membrane, covering 92% of the area, with translucent panels making up the remaining 8%. The white membrane keeps direct sun off the excavation and prevents the greenhouse effect that would otherwise build up inside, holding internal temperatures close to those outside. An extract system at the crown draws hot air off by natural buoyancy, improving conditions for the crews working below through the summer months.
Long-span Space and Intelligent Control
The dome stands at roughly half its span in height, giving an open interior with room for heavy plant to work. A PLC control system and a set of environmental sensors track internal pressure, dust and noise in real time, raising an automatic alarm if any reading moves outside its set range.
Why It Matters
The project confirms that foundation pit air domes work in genuinely sensitive settings — campuses and residential compounds among them — and offers a green route to building at close quarters in dense city districts. XY Air Dome will continue to invest in the technology and push green construction methods into wider use.
