Air-supported snow dome: Empowering new scenarios for the winter sports economy through quality

Air-supported snow dome: Empowering new scenarios for the winter sports economy through qualityDriven by both the "North Ice, South Exhibition" strategy and the dual carbon goals, pneumatic membrane structures are breaking the temporal and spatial constraints of winter sports through their core concept of "inflatable structures combined with intelligent temperature control". These rapidly deployable inflatable buildings, requiring no concrete foundations, are not only reshaping the construction logic of winter sports venues but also emerging as game-changers in the winter sports economy. Their flexible applications and low-carbon credentials are paving the way for industry advancement. In early May 2025, the Fujian Longyan Air-Supported Snow Pavilion 2.0, meticulously crafted by Xinyuan Air-Supported Structures, was officially completed. This marks Longyan City's second panda-rib air-supported snow pavilion. Leveraging its mature air-supported membrane technology and specialised construction capabilities, Beijing Xinyuan Yijia Membrane Structure Technology Co., Ltd. successfully delivered this landmark venue integrating technological innovation with ice and snow culture. It has created another year-round ice and snow sports space for the citizens of Longyan. As early as March 2024, the inauguration of Longyan's inaugural Panda Air-Cushion Snowfall Pavilion successfully addressed the longstanding absence of year-round winter sports facilities in western Fujian. With its innovative architectural form and immersive experience, it has emerged as a new cultural tourism landmark for the city. The completion of the Panda Air-Cushion Snowfall Pavilion 2.0 further provides a replicable model for advancing the winter sports industry in southern China.Panda's Ribcage Snowflake Pavilion 1.0Panda's Ribcage Snowflake Pavilion 2.0The Panda Air Rib Snow Pavilion employs air-rib inflatable membrane structure technology, combining high-strength membrane materials with an intelligent control system to ensure stable and reliable structural integrity. Through standardised production processes such as digital cutting and automated heat-sealing welding, Xinyuan Air Membrane achieves high-precision membrane seam processing, with structural airtightness meeting industry-leading standards. The venue's intelligent control system maintains a low-temperature snowfall environment indoors while addressing energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, achieving low-energy consumption and high-eco-performance operational goals.During construction, the Xinyuan Air Membrane team employed a combined approach of modular prefabrication and on-site assembly. Through 3D modelling to optimise construction workflows, they successfully completed the main structure installation and system commissioning. Testing confirmed the venue meets design specifications for air pressure stability, wind resistance, and thermal insulation performance, earning approval from the client.
