The Changping Yong’an Ancient City project is situated in the heart of Chengbei Subdistrict, Changping District, Beijing, adjacent to a historical and cultural conservation area. Given the sensitive nature of the surrounding environment, the project is subject to stringent environmental protection requirements. As a key urban regeneration project, it must ensure construction progress whilst minimising disruption to local residents and the historical and cultural environment. Traditional open-air construction methods struggle to meet multiple requirements—including dust control, noise reduction and efficient construction—simultaneously, creating an urgent need for innovative solutions.
Xinyuan Air Structures has designed a fully enclosed air-supported structure system for this project’s excavation pit. Covering an excavation area of 7,700 square metres, the structure spans a total area of 8,148 square metres, with an internal height of up to 23 metres, allowing for the full operation of all types of heavy machinery within the pit. The system utilises high-strength air-supported materials combined with an intelligent control system to ensure stable, round-the-clock operation.
In response to Beijing’s high-temperature summer construction conditions, Xinyuan Air-Supported Structures has innovatively introduced a water curtain cooling system. By utilising the principle of water-air exchange, this system creates a sustained cooling effect within the air-supported structure. It has significantly improved working comfort during the hot summer months, effectively safeguarding worker safety and efficiency.
